Just want to keep you all in the loop 💙 Mrs E being pregnant after going through a stillbirth is quite challenging emotionally, but together I know we can get through it ❤️ and huge props to Mrs E who is carrying all of this literally!

Bub is all knowing

They understand more than we think

Even if they lack the context for full understanding, kids are always more perceptive than we give them credit for.

I try REALLY HARD to err on the side of assuming my little dude can understand whatever. It would be easier if his response when he didn't understand was any different from when he does. Hard to tell the "Ohhhh" of comprehension from the "Ohhhh" of "Daddy just said some shit, better respond".

This is stressed SO MUCH in pediatric healthcare, and really any career or job that works directly with children

I'm crying at panel 11-12.

I lost a baby in 2020, and got pregnant again in 2021, she just celebrated her 5th birthday, but I've always felt like it was the same soul coming back ♥️

There is a disney movie called Soul that deals with this same thought. Sometimes a soul isn't "ready" so it comes back and spends some more time and then returns to the family.

When I was 6 my mom had a miscarriage. She got a pregnant again the following year and had my first brother. I believed it worked exactly this way. Same kid, he just needed to do it over again.

I’m 40 now. My wife and I have three children but we’ve also had two miscarriages. One after the first and one after the second. I still believe this is how it works. We didn’t lose any, they just took longer.

I have friends who miscarried and those panels broke me.

Warning, discussion of growing up being the girl born after a stillbirth of a daughter.

Hey I want to caution about sharing the thought about the soul coming back with your child in the future. My parents first was a stillborn girl and then they had me after my brother. I knew about her because of stuff like an angel with her name on the tree my grandparents had of all their grandkids and my dad planting rose bushes on her birthday.

I also grew up knowing my parents only wanted two children and that I was only born because she wasn't. I was already a very anxious child and somehow got it into my head that any failure was worse because I was also failing her. Maybe this would have been better if my parents had been less secretive but can't turn the clock back.

I was also a rainbow baby, but as a result of a miscarriage rather than a stillbirth. I'm glad my mother was always upfront about things, and didn't make me feel like I owed her anything for being the next child. I remember being 3 and joking about my older sibling being a pizza my mama ate. It's not fair to burden your kid with something like that.

12. u/Athedia · 2026-10-25 19:25 UTC

My parents didn't burden me with it on purpose. But I also think they didn't know what to do or say.

Here’s hoping the pregnancy and birth go smoothly!

Kids casually picking up on things and like, not even registering that it’s a big deal is very on brand for most little kids lol

Wish you both the best of luck! Hopefully finding out how to draw your daughter becomes easier once you can actually see her and make her the (comedically) accurate little worm bean she’ll be in comics haha

Gonna go against the grain and say I don't like the idea of the dead baby coming back as the new baby. Respect the dead, but also respect the new life to be. It's awful to say goodbye to family you never even got to know. But it's also awful to project a dead baby onto a new life. I've read stories here on reddit of people that had to grow up with that baggage and it never goes well.

Properly mourn the lost and learn to let go. Nothing good will come from rejecting reality.

17. u/Athedia · 2026-10-25 16:02 UTC

I actually just posted a warning about that. I am my parents third and their first was also a girl but stillborn and they had always only wanted two children. They didn't even push the idea of being reborn but I felt like every failure was magnified by having to live for two people. Didn't help my anxious little brain at all. Still messes me up tbh.

18. u/BrianWonderful · 2026-10-25 15:21 UTC

I agree with you, and I'm glad you brought it up. Projecting a deceased soul onto a new birth means that you didn't ever come to terms with the loss of the loved one. Grief is a process, and it is not mentally healthy to ignore it. Talking with a therapist might be a really good idea in this scenario, not just for processing the loss of one child, but any complicated feelings you may saddle onto the new child.

19. u/MsMegane · 2026-10-25 14:55 UTC

I understand what you're saying. My "older sibling" was miscarried and I've always regarded the baby as a separate person.

20. u/cyanraichu · 2026-10-25 19:45 UTC

I'm not a fan either but if it works for this couple I'm not gonna say they can't use it (as long as they don't share this with the kid because that could mess them up)
