So for context i had opposite situation day before this appointment, where i went for a dentist check up, looking very messy, got miss-ed from the start then they got kinda confused by my voice asked to clarify and they been perfect with the pronouns for an entire visit. So that was interesting contrast

As a medical professional this is just rude to go that far to ask and then to deny a person the pronouns that they ask you for. Like straight up ass

Also this 5th drink is for /u/CrazyGnomenclature who even though she hates Florida loves a good beer. Though the shandy may be more her speed

Misgender them right back and if they say anything blame it on her facial hair

I’ve always hated this meme, of course batman doesn’t need a shotgun. he’s a billionaire with high tech toys and super powered friends. If im getting maliciously misgendered by some ass in a medical office I’m going to use whatever tools I have at my disposal to make that person feel like trash.

Honestly, it's one of those things where I think both sides are right and you aren't wrong regardless which choice you make.

Ideally, you want to follow the "golden rule" and "do unto others and you want them to do unto you", but at the same time, it is just REALLY hard to get through some people's incredibly thick misgendering heads, and misgendering them back is an effective tool to get it to click as to how insulting it really is.

It's honestly a discussion that in a perfect world wouldn't even need to be had, but we live in this one, so...

6. u/PennyPeas · 2026-10-26 20:42 UTC

isn’t misgendering them in response to them misgendering us following the golden rule though? lol they wanted to misgender so obviously they wanted to be misgendered. 😂

7. u/samanime · 2026-10-26 20:47 UTC

It's the double loopback version of the golden rule. =p

i think in this economy were going to have to scale-back our expenses to the cast iron rule (you hit people that annoy you with a cast iron pan)

9. u/marioaprooves · 2026-10-26 21:39 UTC

I like that rule.

10. u/North_Ad_2124 · 2026-10-27 01:57 UTC

No? The rule is "do unto others what you would want to be done unto you", not "do to others what they did to you", just because they are wrong one must not lower oneself to their level, you must never fight someone stupid on their level, they will beat you with their experience, actually, you shouldn't debate with stupid in general, it's a waste of time trying to be reasonable with someone who doesn't hear reason

11. u/A-Wings-are-Neat · 2026-10-26 21:31 UTC

The thing is, the golden rule applies to them, too. If they’re treating me like shit, clearly they want that energy right back.

i think ideally you should make an effort to follow that golden rule first and default to showing kindness, however if they're still being an ass even after that then all bets are off and you have every right to stop being kind!

13. u/Bwob · 2026-10-26 21:10 UTC

It's basically the paradox of tolerance all over again. People think there is some kind of moral imperative to be tolerant of everyone. But there really isn't. Tolerance isn't automatic. It's just a peace treaty. If everyone is tolerant of each other, then everyone gets along. But if someone breaks the treaty, you are under no moral obligation to keep holding up your end of it. You don't need to remain tolerant of someone who is being intolerant.

Same thing with kindness. Yes, absolutely it's good to have kindness as your default option. But if someone is abusing that kindness, and not being kind in return, you don't have to keep it up. They've broken the treaty. As you say, all bets are off.

I just live my life by James Dalton’s advice from Roadhouse:

Be nice, until it is time to not be nice.

More than that, batman was trained by ra's al ghul and the league of assassins to be one of the deadliest fighters in the world, even if he doesnt kill he definitly permanatly cripples or pushes many thugs on the verge of death or brain damage. Like you said too, its easy to take that high road when he's got about 1000 options he can use and work with vs about everyone else's one(which is weapons)

Misgendering to make a point and misgendering to insult are two different things imo

17. u/Rian_Maximus · 2026-10-26 20:18 UTC

Real

18. u/Dread2187 · 2026-10-26 20:55 UTC

I disagree actually. Evil cis people deserve it and it doesn't hurt them nearly as bad as it hurts us.

19. u/TheSwedishMoose · 2026-10-26 22:57 UTC

I don't think the meme was appropriate here, tbh. It should be applied if someone, say, insulted Caitlyn Jenner by misgendering her. You can dislike a trans person for a legitimate reason, but attacking their gender identity is not ok because it hurts other trans people too.

This meme doesn't really make sense when misgendering is applied against a cis person.

20. u/Dread2187 · 2026-10-26 22:59 UTC

I agree. Trans people don't deserve to get misgendered in retaliation, it just sets the precedent that our acceptance in society is only a reward for good behavior, which hurts all of us. Cis people, it barely even phases them so who cares.
