People have a right to vote how they want to.
In this privately operated community however, people do not have an inherent right to broadcast opinions we believe to be antithetical to our community values and beliefs.
This means that while you are free to vote for Trump, we will not allow you to promote Trump in this space. You have most of the rest of social media available to you for that.
A corollary of that is that we do not allow you to encourage people to abstain from voting in this subreddit either. Convincing people not to vote is equivalent to supporting Trump.
Please keep in mind that this policy is final and not up for discussion. If that angers you, then this community is not for you.
We have a right of freedom of association and from that follows that we refuse to associate with those whose values and morals violently clash with ours. You do not have a right to impose your beliefs anywhere you see fit. You have many places available to you and you lose nothing by being told that this may not be the place for you.
Please keep this in mind when commenting.
Thank you,
The r/Comics mod team

Oh poor eve. They do exist.
I know the gag is a real thing bots do, but half the queer people I know say that shit (in person, not online). It makes me pull my hair out.
It's so prelavant that I was shocked to learn "accerationist" is considered a right wing thing, because I know quite a few queer people that think "if we swing ultra hard right and destroy the world, we will finally convince people to kill capitalism. That will have a better outcome than another century of liberals doing nothing". Ofc they aren't doing any work to prepare for the "revolution".
They just want to sit there and wait until someone else saves them or the perfect candidate pops up while they shit post.

It's incredibly infuriating because if a state swings ultra-right, that doesn't mean the people are more likely to rise up, it means the fascists have more resources and legitimacy to crush opposition. No good comes from the fascists gaining more power.

Ironically it's the weird same logic that the ultra-rich use, where they'd rather prepare for a hypothetical perfect world on Mars or where they're all uploaded to the cloud or some nonsense, rather than investing and improving the actual world they're in now.
It's a weird thing where it's easier to feel generous to future hypothetical people than the complicated normal people that are already alive? I don't fully understand it

Because a potential perfect world where you don't need to do anything is easier than the hard work of improving an imperfect world today. Change, in whatever direction, is a hard and often thankless fight. And depending on what the topic is, you might only ever see slow change in your lifetime. But, and that is the important thing, your slow change might set the foundation for fast change after you are gone. What was the saying? A society grows great when old men plant trees in which shade they will never sit? These people want to sit in the shade and not deal with the back breaking work of planting said trees.

How could there ever be a perfect anything with humans involved? It's so fucking stupid.
7. u/Heated13shot · 2026-10-26 14:44 UTC
I think it stems from a similar reason fascists gain power in the first place.
It's a simple solution to a complex problem.
Dragging/pushing your countries -insert statis quo here- party into the future is a massive pain in the ass, is constant work, and the boulder keeps sliding down randomly. It's very likely whatever leftist goal you have will not happen in your lifetime. Planting trees that you will never see the shade of and all that.
But letting fascists speed run "press apathetic people's hand on the hot stove" with the goal of hoping the general public swings wildly in the opposite direction is a simple solution. And it has the perk of maybe happening in your lifetime. I highly doubt the general public would do that though. They likely would just swing to whatever the surviving powerful people want.
8. u/Wobbelblob · 2026-10-26 16:21 UTC
And the problem for queer people is that they are usually one of the groups that fascist want gone. I would get that line of thinking if you are decently well off and not part of the group that fascist have historically targeted first. But for queer people to think that way borders on passive suicide.
9. u/Anonyman41 · 2026-10-26 18:27 UTC
A lot of nonvoters I know are simply not the people who's hand is being pushed to the stove, and they know it.
People who choose their own moral purity over any real action are very much the 'Some of you may die, but that is a risk I'm willing to take' mindset. Sucks for queer people losing their rights and all that, but the dems didn't pass my purity test so what was I supposed to do, mail in a ballot? That takes like, thirty minutes!

They’d let the world drown in sewage if it left their own hands clean.

You are absolutely right. It's no fun raising a Queer kid in my state. The state tools of oppression are ever-present and insidious. If people think they can right wing their way out of mediocrity, they really underestimate just how bigoted and stupid a large swath of the electorate is.
Nevertheless, we shall hope. Lots of alt looking Folk in line at early voting in a deep red county yesterday. A small step in the right direction is a lot safer than a risky plot to destabilize the entire system in the hopes that it turns out better in the long run.

This is a thought that I've been trying to put into words for a long time. It doesn't help that I'm 'only' bi and not trans, so it feels a little like, to paraphrase Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's Letter from Birmingham Jail, telling trans people to wait, like telling them their justice is on my/a non-trans timetable and that they just need to be patient.
But at the end of the day, this election in particular is a choice between fascism and not fascism. And at that point, it doesn't really matter whether the not-fascism is a queer Democrat Socialist or a transphobic center-right Democrat, they're still better than the fascist.
At some point, it's not about voting for the perfect candidate who will give you all your rights, it's about voting for the candidate who won't kill you for being civilly disobedient in pursuit of those rights. It's a hell of a lot easier to protest transphobia from outside the concentration camp.

As someone whose family immigrated here from South America the idea things have to swing back and can only get so bad before successful revolution always feels like the out of touch thoughts of very privileged ignorant people with zero experience of how that shit really plays out. Nation wide protests with no governmental change are not a rare thing globally.

It's also really easily disproved if you look at the current world.
If you look at countries that are embracing neoliberal politics and unchecked free-market capitalism like the US and the UK, they are leaning more and more right. The US voted Trump in twice, and Reform are a huge deal in the UK atm and we voted for Brexit. Socialist parties in these countries are non-factors. They get easily less than 1% of the vote.
Then if you look at countries like Norway, which lean more socialist in their policies (obviously it's social democracy, not actual socialism, but it's closer than what the US/UK are doing). Openly Socialist/Communist parties got 11% of the vote in the 2025 election.
So clearly not voting, and allow capitalism and fascists to do whatever they want unchecked, leads to people moving away from the left. Whereas embracing elections and pushing through left wing ideals, moves the Overton window, and shows people the good of these policies and makes them more popular.
This shouldn't be surprising, but yknow, apparently it is

I literally got banned off r/socialism during the last election cycle for being like "Hey Americans, I get Kamala isn't perfect, but she's sure as shit a lot better than trump. The journey left isn't going to happen overnight, we don't live in some idyllic paradise, change is going to take time."
I cursed out the mods afterwards and they proceeded to add a 'no lesser of two evils' policy so... there ya go. These idiots drive me crazy.
18. u/TheModWhoShaggedMe · 2026-10-26 15:10 UTC
a 'no lesser of two evils' policy is automatically endorsing the worst evil possible (which they did, congrats)
Honestly, it all boils down to ego. There's too much of it on the far left, and we got played. Humble yourselves, those who haven't awakened from the past decade's anti-liberal trance. We're all in this together, every non-conservative and vulnerable and marginalized person in this conservative hellscape. None of us is more important the greater collective and common good. Certainly not our fart huffing about being above the process at cocktail parties -- how f'ing lame.

In college, I was more active with further left political groups, and I left after being called a fascist for insisting that we should be trying to at a bare minimum work for incremental change rather than only taking action if we think we'll get everything we want all at once.

There is room in the US for a new left. We need to cast off the shackles of cold war leftism and Soviet talking points and approach it from what the US is, a microcosm of the world. I think a humanist left can grow in the US with ease and also embrace the theoretical ideals of our nations founding words.
