Patrik Walker is an Emmy Award–winning writer who covers all things Comics & Superheroes. His work can also be found at the Dallas Cowboys, The Sporting News, and CBS Sports, among other outlets. One of the most respected names in his field, he is also a diehard enthusiast of all things comics, anime, gaming and movies — thriving in spaces where discussions involving those or similar topics reign supreme.
The great news is that DC Comics seems as invested in the appreciation of Green Arrow as they are with any character, and that's led to some great content in the comics. For example, if you want to truly go to the dark side of an already dark Oliver Queen, feel free to pick up Absolute Green Arrow , that is assuming you've been under a rock and didn't know about it.
But it seems it's time for DC Comics to pass the hood and bow on to another for 2026, and that decision mostly flew under the radar, hidden in The Deadman series — yet another series that is worthy of a pull from your local shop.
Per the official synopsis for The Deadman #5 from DC Comics: "THE FUTURE OF THE DEADMAN! In this loving ode to an occult-classic comic, the Deadman finds himself flung to one of a few feasible futures in which the forward march of Earth's phantoms has fallen off... for good. Boston Brand — human once more! — must survive a strange sojourn through a soulless tomorrow, featuring the freakiest-ever futuristic takes on a few familiar faces belonging to the DCU's phantasmagoric foothold. Soldier on, photon stranger, through the psycho-spiritual swamp that is... the Gr33n."
Needless to say, this isn't the first time the mantle of Green Arrow has been passed to another . There are several instances across the multiverse in DC Comics wherein a multitude of Queen's descendants have decided to grab the hood and bow, not only his son Connor Hawk[e] who, by the way, does it as John Diggle Jr. a.k.a. Connor Hawke — the son of Diggle and not Queen in the Arrowverse.
Speaking of the Arrowverse , will there be a continuation of it , in any way?
James Gunn has yet to announce any casting decision for the DCU's Green Arrow, and those who enjoyed the beloved Arrow on CW know exactly who to put up for the role, namely, Stephen Amell, the actor who portrayed the character in live-action form from 2012-2020; and Amell took to social media in September with a massive tease.
He's seen sitting outside of a small shop that has a drawing of Green Arrow posted with the following caption: "Have You Seen This Man?"
The video then pans to Amell, who pretends to hope no one will recognize him, writing a provocative caption of his own: "Just when I think I'm out ..." — effectively letting the Gunn know he's available for, at minimum, a ninth season of Arrow .
