Hey!
Getting close to the final week for the Wholesome Adventure Campaign. It's been great to have been involved in a larger project and cool to see it coming into its own thing.

I've also been working on an outline for a series of comics that tell a more serialized story in the Gator Days universe. I've been putting together a five part series that I intend to treat as a pilot for trying that format out. Can't wait to share more.

Enjoy it Now - Gator Days
Characters
August - Alligator - A soft spoken single father who works in IT. Gustopher's dad.
Gustopher - Alligator - An easily excitable boy who loves making friends. August's son.
Nougat - Cat - Animal - August and Gustopher's pet cat.
Transcript
Panel 1
Setting - August and Gustopher's kitchen table.
August and Gustopher are making a Halloween costume out of cardboard. Gustopher will be going as a cinnamon roll this year. He's just finished getting the front part cut out. August is holding a jar of white paint labeled "Plain Paint". The most vanilla of paints.
Gustopher: How is this?
August: Looks good. Do you want to paint it?
Panel 2
Gustopher begins to paint a glaze onto his cardboard cinnamon roll and gets curious about his father's childhood Halloween experiences.
Gustopher: What did you do for Halloween when you were a kid?
August: We didn't celebrate Halloween.
Panel 3
Gustopher stops painting and gives his father a shocked look. Not celebrate Halloween? Is this legal? Last year he found out his friend didn't go trick-or-treating and now this? Why isn't something being done about this.
Panel 4
Gustopher voices his opinion on the matter.
Gustopher: THAT'S NOT FAIR!
August: Yeah, but at least I can enjoy it now.
Missing out can feel bad but at least August can do his best to help his son enjoy the things he couldn't. Nougat also doesn't want to miss out and is attempting to reach up and grab the paint brush from Gustopher's hand. Someday her art will be appreciated.

I normally have a lot more to say about the transcript. But this time?

Here's the title panel!
The first five pages will be going up on Patreon soon (ideally today) and I'll be deciding where I want to go with it after that. It's loosely based on my own experience with finding a proper friend group for the first time in adulthood.

I didn’t get to celebrate Halloween as a kid either. :/ And my parents are baffled why I like cosplay and dressing up for things like ren fairies now.

You've probably answered this a few times, but why do you post the transcripts of your comics in the comments? I've never seen anyone else do that and I'm very curious.

There's a lot of reasons. It started with people just asking for a transcription of the dialogue on Bluesky and I ended up adding more and more to it as it seemed useful to others. Ideally, each comic should stand on its own without the need of the transcripts but it's intended to be there for anyone who might need any extra context or understanding of the situation. They also just help with several questions people might have such as providing character names, their relationships, and pointing out smaller details that might be difficult to see on a smaller screen.
I've actually been writing two versions, one intended for screen readers which is shorter and more direct. These don't make their way onto Reddit as I've yet to find any sort of dedicated screen reading element on here but that usually goes into the alt-text on other sites. The longer versions which I call transcripts I typically in the comments or posted alongside the comic depending on the site.

Oh, that's very accommodating. You seem like a swell person.

If it helps, it's kinda your brand. if I see a description panel by panel I don't have to see any pictures or read any words at all to go: This is a Gator Days comic

Will it be okay to put vanilla paint in a cinammon roll (costume)?

sometimes it seems like the quality of your drawings goes down because "I can always describe it in the transcript" IYKWIM

I'm from a country that considers Halloween "too american".
Moved to the US March 2020, and have made ridiculous costumes every single year! 31F with no kids, so I'm borrowing some coworkers kids and we're all going trick or treating this weekend.
Year 1, I was the Wilson volleyball from Cast Away (and my wonderful husband did a great Tom Hanks)
This year, I made 8ft wide set of wings for a Maleficent costume in under 3 days.
Halloween is great!

I'm from a country that already had a costume holiday.
Now that Halloween is global, we have 2 of them, one in spring and one in fall.

March of 2020 is a crazy time to have moved to the US.

It was also the start of our 90 day fiance visa, got married at the start of April. We both say we'll survive anything since we made it through that together haha
