SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - ACME Comics & Collectibles at 1622 Pierce Street held a Trick-or-Read Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The community could come out in costume to get candy and two free comic books to take home.

Co-owner Kevin McGarry said the store has held the event for about 15 years and that it is a great way to get kids interested in reading.

“I love having it when teachers come to me after a free Comic Book Day event and say, ‘Hey, you know what? Little Billy didn’t have any interest in reading. He got one of your books and now he’s reading in class,’” McGarry said. “I mean, to me, that’s huge. I love that.”

The event also included a silent auction. Proceeds will go to the Starlight Foundation to buy Ghostbusters-themed hospital gowns for sick children.
