That was some BIG implied self hate there... I feel that while Audrey values others beauty a lot Audrey finds very hard to see their own.

I think you nailed it. Especially with this particular panel. Audrey's eyes are greyer than normal. Almost as if to reflect exactly those feelings

It’s not fun to be femme in a body that really wants you to be giant and hairy.
Couple that with all the trauma from men either denying u rights or catcalling u for being femme, like it’s not a good time.

Ah the joys of living under a repressive regime with intense body dysphoria.

Even here in Sweden, I’ve had to put up with getting sexually harassed for being femme, and randomly assaulted for being trans

What's the meaning of femme? Is it means trans? Or more like a feminine man?
7. u/mauriciomeireles · 2026-11-06 18:41 UTC
To portray yourself as feminine, for example: Audrey is femme, while Val isn't. To a vertain degree butch lesbians and tomboys would also fall in the "not femme" while characters like astolfo from fate and Felix from re:zero would fall onto "femme", even if they reffer to themselves as males.

So, a femme doesn't identifies as a women it's just a preference of look (?) Thanks!

Yes! And you are welcome

As a natural born hairy woman where men have tried to deny my rights over my own body and been cat called for being feminine I hear ya.
In someway it's different and others it's all the same. Let's just normalize feminine facial hair so everyone doesn't have to be ashamed of their natural bodies.

Hear hear!
As a trans person, I'm pretty sure that plenty of things that give us dysphoria are based off sexist stereotypes. Now, I'm not saying dysphoria would disappear if sexism disappeared! But, there is a difference between "this makes me feel bad because it's not me" and "this makes me feel bad because men/women absolutely don't do/have it".
It's a fine line to walk between what really comes from yourself vs. what comes from society telling you how it should be.
My ex was a closeted trans man whose main reason (amongst others) to not transition was literally "being too short to be a man". Like. Wtf. As if there weren't plenty of cisgender short kings.

catcalling u for being femme
Forgive my ignorance here, genuinely not trying to stir shit here, but wouldn't that be more uplifting? Not because catcalling is good or anything at all like that, but rather that being catcalled by men would mean you "pass".

It can be a weird feeling, since it's still unwanted harassment. There's a concept known in trans circles as "ewphoria" where those feelings of grossness get mixed up with that type of validation you're talking about, but it's still not really a "good" feeling personally
14. u/CueCueQQ · 2026-11-06 18:57 UTC
I have seen that word before, but didn't really understand it's meaning at the time. I sort of understood it from context clues, but you've made it click more.

This is what we call ewforia. It's affirming, yes, but gross

This panel right here reminds me so much of things my wife goes through. It fucked me up. Shen is making something truly special.
I don't know or care what Audrey's gender is or will be. He's an incredible character in a story that explores things about gender that reflect how messy it all is in real life. I wish so much I could just snap my fingers and take people's pain away, and let them see and feel how wonderful they are in whatever imperfections they perceive

I felt so seen with the panel where Audrey sees their face first thing in the morning. Dear Lord, those haunted eyes. I've seen them so many times looking at my face.
I'm glad your wife has such a supportive partner as yourself. And yes, I agree with you wholeheartedly about this comic series.

Heh... that's literally my every morning now... Just waiting for that hair removal...

God I feel like that every morning it’s so real
