Image Comics is ready to celebrate thirty years of The Darkness in style. The publisher has announced massive celebrations, including two brand-new stories on the way.

The Darkness was co-created by Image founder and partner, and CEO of Top Cow Productions Marc Silvestri, Garth Ennis, and David Wohl, and as its 30th anniversary approaches next year, Image and Top Cow are both pulling out all the stops with two special one-shot stories. The Darkness 30th Anniversary Art Gallery #1 and The Darkness Vs. The Magdalena #1 by Silvestri, co-written by Matt Hawkins and Ryan Cady. The publisher also announced a special The Darkness 30th Anniversary Blind Bag for December when The Darkness (2025) #10 goes on sale.

Top Cow will be releasing The Darkness 30th Anniversary Art Gallery #1, which is described as a special art collection featuring "selected imagery" spanning the entire 30-year legacy of the franchise . It includes iconic covers, sketches, process and promotional pieces along with commentary from Silvestri and Joe Benitez on some of their favorite works and much more.

As for new content, Image Comics will be delivering a high-stakes battle in The Darkness vs. The Magdalena #1: "Like most supernatural do-gooders, the Order of the Magdalena has tangled with Darkness wielders over the centuries... but their histories are more intertwined than most," Image Comics' press release teases of the new story.

The Darkness vs. The Magdalena #1 will be an oversized special that highlights the Darkness' influence over the Warriors of the Blood Divine throughout three different stories — spanning from 0AD Istanbul all the way to the grungy, industrial 1990s. It will also feature a chapter showcasing Top Cow's 2026 Talent Hunt winner, Zul Kamarrudin.

Image Comics also unveiled details of the blind bag program , of which there will only be 1,996 available (to coincide with the year the series first launched). Each blind bag will be priced at $15 and will include one rare The Darkness collectible comic, which could be one of several options:

"It's hard to believe it's been 30 years since we first introduced Jackie Estacado and The Darkness to the world,” Silvestri said in Image's announcement. "What started as an idea for a character who could be both a monster and a hero has grown into something far bigger than any of us imagined. Over the years, some of the most talented creators in comics have helped shape this universe, and the fans have kept it alive through every twist and turn. Thirty years later, we're still finding new stories to tell, new ways to push the boundaries, and new reasons to love these characters. That's pretty damn cool."

While The Darkness may date all the way back to 1996, the character recently got rebooted for an exciting new era at the end of 2025. Image Comics launched a new The Darkness title back in December, and it's set to celebrate its own first anniversary next month as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations. The new series sees Jackie Estacado return, once again thrust into a supernatural war between dark and light and facing terrifying foes.

When The Darkness (2025) #10 hits comic book stores next month with its special blind bag incentive, the interior pages will deliver an incredible landmark issue. Building off previous issues, the story sees only the Angelus standing between Sonatine and the ultimate power, with the odds being against her. "If there can be any hope for humanity, it comes from Jackie Estacado... but even if he could be resurrected, would he really choose to?"

Image Comics and Top Cow's celebration of The Darkness 's 30th anniversary kicks off this December.
