2027. 50 years of Star Wars. Can you believe it?! Even 5 years ago, I imagine we would’ve had a ton of comics ready and waiting to take advantage of the milestone but for now…we only have a handful announced from Marvel and Papercutz. And one of them is…a crossover with the Marvel universe?! Didn’t have that on the bingo card and never would’ve. But it’s here. And so is an Ahsoka season two tie-in, at least? Check out the whopping TWO solicitations for Star Wars Comics in January 2027 below.
Kevin Smith (Writer), David Marquez (Artist) Cover A by David Marquez | Cover B (Alliance) by Alex Ross | Cover C (Battle) {and Cover I Virgin} by Kaare Andrews | Cover D (A New Hope) by Cory Smith | Cover E (Crossover) by Rafael Albuquerque | Cover F (Retro) by Dan Jurgens | Cover G (Marvel Homage) Rogê Antônio | Cover H (Foil) by Matteo Lolli
THE BIGGEST CROSSOVER OF THE CENTURY!!!
A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY is headed to the “World Outside Your Window.” To celebrate the 50th anniversary of STAR WARS, Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm Publishing present STAR WARS | MARVEL: HOPE ASSEMBLES, the first-ever crossover between the two legendary franchises. Written by KEVIN SMITH and drawn by DAVID MARQUEZ, the five-issue limited series brings together heroes and villains from both universes as the AVENGERS, SPIDER-MAN, LUKE SKYWALKER, PRINCESS LEIA, HAN SOLO, DARTH VADER, DOCTOR DOOM and more collide in an epic adventure. After a reality-shattering spell causes the events of A NEW HOPE to unfold on EARTH-616, two iconic universes meet on the page for the very first time.
It’s something I’ll reiterate but I mentioned in the both the initial announcement and my NYCC 2026 news round-up post , I have nothing against crossovers and this might turn out to be dumb fun, but why we’re wasting money and resources on this instead of new stories expanding the galaxy far, far away is beyond me. From the list of variant covers alone, which they initially announced was only A-F even though there was a G and now there is up to I {what the heck?!}, it just feels like this made in hopes it’ll sell a lot for collectors of both franchises. The initial preview, in case you missed it , while looks nice in Marquez’s art, doesn’t quite click for me. Maybe if I was younger? Maybe if there wasn’t two dismal years of dwindling amounts of Star Wars comics before this? I like the joke with Captain America and stormtroopers, but seeing the word gatekeeper, and the Marvel characters trapezing around iconic Star Wars imagery, just makes this a hard sell. Supposedly this thing is now also 6 issues, not just 5, but the solicit says 5 and someone over there has to get this all sorted. Next you know, it’ll have variant covers that go from A-Z!
Dave Filoni & Rodney Barnes (Writer), Andrea Di Vito (Artist) Cover by Phil Noto | Variant Cover by Rod Reis | Variant Cover Takashi Okazaki | Variant & Virgin Variant Cover by Ken Lashley
AN ALL-NEW ADVENTURE BASED ON A STORY BY SERIES CREATOR DAVE FILONI!
Witness the unseen story of EZRA BRIDGER’s daring flight from Peridea! Ezra narrowly escaped his exile beyond the known galaxy by stowing away aboard GRAND ADMIRAL THRAWN’s flagship, but his fight to return home is far from over! Hunted across hyperspace with nowhere to hide, the rebel hero must now evade CAPTAIN ENOCH, counter the dark magick of the NIGHTSISTERS, and outwit the Empire’s greatest strategist if he hopes to make it off the Chimaera alive. Based on a story by series creator Dave Filoni, this unseen chapter from Ahsoka is a thrilling companion to the upcoming second season of the hit Disney+ series!
An original story set around the events of a Filoni project??! Oh, Filoni himself came up with it? Okay, that makes sense. But regardless, this is the first comic out in 2027 I’m excited about ( like I said when it was revealed ) as I love me some Ezra Bridger and I think it’ll be neat to see how the heck he didn’t get captured despite all the tactical minds and magick-filled Nightsisters occupying the same Star Destroyer as him. I mean, if he could evade capture and hang out with some cute little turtle-like creatures on Peridea for years, he must’ve really honed is wily ways! The issue is slated to release the same day as Ahsoka ‘s second season premieres, but I guarantee they’ll do another “surprise” early release and have it out on Tuesday instead of Wednesday, but I do like these will be out around the same time. The show will wrap up long before the series is over, but this could be a fun little story even though it’ll likely not be too important to the events of the show’s new season.
And when it comes to the new licensee, Mad Cave Studios’ next Star Wars project, via their Papercutz imprint, is not out until March 2027 , though they did announce a few other stories at SDCC and NYCC in 2026 .
