Now imagine if the alien had abducted Trump:
Alien 1: So... How was it?
Alien 2: Exterminatus it is.

Lmao so in the first panel, the way the lighting hits the guy's head makes it look like he has blond hair and I actually thought that's what was happening

You're not alone!

I was expecting this to go a whole different way based on the first panel.

Ok, the tombstone saying "Beloved Daughter, Sister, Wife"... but not mother. That hits hard.
(Honestly, I don't think it needed the 'my wife was taken while expecting' line later on, feel like the tombstone hit harder on that front, making that line less impactful.)

Ohh dammnn good critique! I just wanted to establish context and show how Craig moved on in the sense that he can talk about it casually to a crowd of people 15 years later

I disagree with this person. Him speaking to the crowd is more immersive and he would absolutely say that line at the top of a speech.

To be clear, I don't think it's unrealistic that he would say that, like you imply, I think it's perfectly reasonable. It just has a slight "over-explainer" feel as an audience looking in on this life, which can be at odds to emotional impact.

I disagree that it feels over explained, nor was I trying to imply that you thought he wouldn't say it. You clearly stated, however, that he shouldn't say it because of your reason. In matters of art I think its perfectly fine and reasonable to disagree. My intention was just to offer the author another perspective. I think the speech and mentioning of his late wife and child made me more immersed. I also think it makes sense that you mind find redundancy when flashing through key points in a human's life. To your credit, its a very short story but I still disagree that it is an overexplained point.
Edit: spelling

Not everyone would read the tombstone inscription.
17. u/Pleased_to_meet_u · 2026-10-24 00:24 UTC
I did not read the inscription. Having the person say it while presenting had the impact on me that the author intended.
18. u/TheSero · 2026-10-23 23:40 UTC
And that's fine. Some people won't. Maybe if they see this comic again 3 months later they could be all "ooooh wow, I missed that first time!".
In my view, not absolutely everything needs to be picked up by every reader/viewer each and every time (as in, some readers will get this thing while others will get that thing). Things are more interesting when things can be 'discovered', but that means they have to be missable though.

I read the tombstone and noticed it was missing mother but didn't catch his line while speaking.

That double tragedy might be a bit too gratuitous. All around great comic though.
